Invented by Native Americans, this game is steeped in history. As a modern version of the game, it is the National Sport of Canada and is growing in popularity here in the United States. It is also a game that involves high skills to play effectively. The object of the game is to shoot the ball past a goalie to score. The ball is passed in the air with the stick to a teammate who catches the ball. When the ball is on the ground, players must scoop the ball effectively into their stick. Hands are not used to play the ball. While it is played as a full contact sport, we will be learning with less violent skills and rules. Students will learn the history of the game, learn some of today’s modern rules, participate in skills drills and compete in scrimmages. Each student will be given a mini lacrosse “Fiddle Stick”and soft play ball. Each student must bring and wear their own eye protection.
